A SCHOOLGIRL, whose sudden death at the age of 13 has rocked a community, will be remembered for her sparkling smile, say friends.
Shivohn Watson, a popular Haydock High pupil, died at Whiston Hospital after collapsing at her home on Sunday.
The tragedy has left a tight-knit community in mourning and led to emotional tributes to the bright teenager, who lived in Parr.
Teachers and friends described her as “a determined” year 9 student who will be remembered for her “cheeky, infectious smile”.
Flowers were building up outside the secondary school’s main entrance and hundreds of messages have been posted on Facebook.
In a statement Andy Pollard, headteacher at Haydock High School, said: “We are shocked and saddened by the sudden and unexpected news about Shivohn.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family at this time.
“Shivohn was a popular student with a good sense of humour and an incredible determination to succeed.
“In our close-knit school community everyone is feeling the sadness of this loss and many of her peers are supporting each other during this difficult period.
“Students and staff are keen to remember Shivohn and already a book of condolence is underway so that thoughts and memories can be shared.”
On Tuesday a coroner briefly opened and adjourned an inquest into Shivohn’s death. She collapsed at home on Sunday and died after being taken to Whiston Hospital by paramedics.
Doctors are still trying to establish what caused her death.
Jenny Finney, head of Year 9, added: “Shivohn was a lovely student who will always be remembered for her smile.
“She had blossomed into a beautiful young lady who had a fantastic group of friends to whom she was very loyal.
“Her academic achievements were going from strength to strength and she enjoyed thinking of the future and choosing her options.
“Shivohn’s personality demonstrated the support and care that she received from her mum and sister.
“She will be deeply missed by both staff and pupils, and we send our deepest sympathies to her family.”
