Police calm child snatch fears
POLICE believe an incident in which it was alleged a man tried to lure a girl into a car was a false alarm.
Officers investigated following reports of an attempted abduction near to Birchley St Mary’s School, Billinge last Tuesday evening.
It led to text alerts being issued to a number of St Helens schools.
However, police have since contacted the driver involved and are satisfied that he was simply asking for directions.
A spokeswoman said: “The man was genuinely lost and this was a misunderstanding. The family involved have been informed.”
