IT is understood that more retail jobs are under threat following reports that the company that owns the soft furnishing company Coverdales, has gone into administration.
Following the departure of Dixons and Woolworths from the town centre, Church Street faces the loss of another store, which has been open for almost 15 years.
Store manager Sylvia Jones, who has been at the St Helens branch for 14 years in April said at the moment, their future is extremely uncertain.
With five jobs under threat in St Helens, she said: “The area manager gave us the news this morning, but we haven’t been given a time limit.”
It is believed that the administrators have been called in by Textiles Direct to “save the core of the company”. Around 60 stores nationwide are under threat.
Sylvia added: “It is important that people continue to use the high street, instead of everything online and the supermarkets. We haven’t gone yet and are very much open for business.”
