Firefighters tackle tree fire near house

FIREFIGHTERS acted just in time to tackle a blaze spreading close to a house after arsonists set fire to four large conifer trees.

They were called at around 11.23pm to Chester Lane in Marshalls Cross on Tuesday.

The four trees, which were well alight, were between ten and 12 metres high.

Watch Manager Neil Graham, from Eccelston Community Fire Station and who attended the call-out said: “The trees were around five metres from a property and we stopped the fire from spreading towards the building. There were no injuries.”

It was put out by 11.50pm and one hose jet was used. The trees were severely damaged.

An appliance from Whiston Community Fire Station and one from Eccleston Community Fire Station attended the call-out.

The Merseyside Fire Service control room received six calls about the fire.
