THE President of Rotary International for GB and Ireland visited a number of community projects as he helped mark a milestone anniversary.
John Minhinick was in Newton-le-Willows to see for himself the work of the local branch of the Rotary Club and its successful funding of neighbourhood schemes.
He also dropped in on Newton Community Centre, which has received funding to buy new computers for their computer suite and have a new website built.
Later he attended Wargrave House School for youngsters with Autistic Spectrum Disorder, who also received a cash donation towards their outdoor play area.
Anne Keen from Newton Community Centre said: “President John and his entourage were really impressed with the centre and what we do.
“He was particularly impressed with the quantity and diversity of our programme of activities and that we have so many volunteers.
“He said that the environment was very welcoming and friendly and we should be proud of what we do; which we obviously are.”
