A GLOBAL business leader spelled out the hard work which is required to become successful as he addressed hundreds of secondary school pupils.

Jeremy Bentham, vice-president of global business environment at international oil and gas company Royal Dutch Shell, gave a motivational talk at Cowley International College.

It was part of the Speakers for Schools initiative, which was set up by Robert Peston, the BBC’s business editor.

Addressing more than 200 students and staff, Mr Bentham focused on topics such as economics and the business environment before offering students an insight into his academic and career highlights.

The talk ended with a lively question and answer session involving students.

Cameron Sheeran, Cowley College’s principal, said: “All young people need inspirational role models, and it was a privilege for our students to meet Mr Bentham and to hear first-hand that success is a result of overcoming challenges, working hard and striving for the best.

“We hope it will encourage our students to aim higher and believe anything is possible.”
