Man told to quit ‘drink den’

A NUISANCE neighbour has been forced to vacate his home, which had been at the centre of repeated alcohol abuse complaints.

Helena Homes tenant Daniel McLaughlin, 25, was given seven days to return the keys to his former home on Napier Street after St Helens County Court issued an outright possession order.

McLaughlin caused extensive damage to the property and granted open access to acquaintances who abused alcohol.

Joy Wilson, Anti-Nuisance Manager at Helena, said: “We worked with partner agencies to offer support to Mr McLaughlin on numerous occasions.

“Unfortunately, he continued to abuse his property and cause distress to neighbours, which left us with no option but to take the matter to court with our legal team.”

Napier Street has been the focus of multi-agency working to obtain the court order.

So he should be thrown out of his house. Too many people get away with causing nuisance to neighbours and nine times out of ten nothing is done about it. Well done to Helena for standing their ground.

.....We want more of this news, took us nine months to getrid of one like this, with the help of decent neighbours and the police....they get a rented property and within days think its their street and want to do as they please..all tenants sign a form of rules, but lots ignore them..keep these types on the move, they will get fed up of it in time hopefully..scum

Why should he get help??? There are too many people who are unemployed claiming every benefit under the sun and the first thing they do in a morning is go the shop for their daily bottle of white lightening. I've lived in flats where the woman next to me had a drink problem spent her dole money on booze and drugs and let violent people into the block, she got all the help in the world but wasn't committed to helping herself. Yes help should be available to those who really do need it. As for this lad moving into private rented accommodation speaking as a landlord myself thorough reference checks are done and i wouldnt have someone like him in my property for the sake of the neighbours and my property. Bottom line is if this lad didnt want to be helped then don't help him.

frankly,do you know if this man has any mental problems? or is his drinking just a part of some medical inbalance that needs care, what kind of support was offered ?yes i did read the story but found it very thin with all the facts,as for the comments from Lolly92,we all know of stories about people who should be in care but are thrown out to fend for themselves and some can only cope by drinking,as for your comment on private landlords, are these the same people who charge more than a mortgage for a 2 bed hovel and we the tax payer foots the bill with as you said benifits, dont forget over 85% of rented property is paid for with housing benifits and i dont see many landlords turning that money away.

Keepitreal..........
.Not all landlords rent out hovels for high rents..i have seen round here good refurbished houses let out to those types we are on about and once in, in most cases its the new tenant that creates the hovel...most have no idea of how to look after a house and have no intention of learning or being taught/helped..As long as they have a roof over their heads, then their life is ok..I do blame landlords though as well, both private and non private for not having regular checks on how their properties are being looked after, and if the tenant is FITTING IN with his neighbours..All tenants sign an agreement, how many landlords check its being applied ?

frankly, most of the private rented houses are what used to be the first rung on the ladder for people to buy, they were snapped up by faceless people to make a profit from the needy, how can a 2 bed terrace house be rented out for 500-600 a month, because we the tax payers are paying it in housing benifit, lining the pockets of landlords who despise spending a penny in maintenance, yes i admit there are some desent landlords but most are just in it for as much as they can make from the state.
