COLD CALL scammers are trying to trick residents by claiming to be from St Helens Citizens Advice Bureau.
Trading standards watchdogs and the CAB issued a warning after the spate of telephone calls from conmen.
The caller asks if they can visit the resident at home to discuss power of attorney and a new government scheme.
Karl Pearce, chief executive of St Helens CAB has warned this would simply never happen.
He said: “We would never make contact with an individual who had not first approached us for advice or assistance.
“We would never cold-call our clients.”
Councillor Richard McCauley, cabinet member for Environmental Protection and Safer Communities, said: “For someone to use the good name of the Citizens Advice Bureau, a name that is trusted by millions of people all over the country, in this way, is appalling.
“Residents should heed this warning and be extra vigilant in ensuring they know exactly who they are dealing with.”
