Let's get Newton show back on the road

Let's get Newton show back on the road
AFTER an absence of 13 years, plans are under way to resurrect an event that celebrated a strong sense of community.
The Newton Show was an important part of the social calendar until 2000, when the organising committee decided to call it a day.
It had been unable to attract new members and dwindled to just six people. With an increasing workload on the members and following the resignation of the chairman, who had held the position for 20 years, it was decided to bring down the curtain on the show.
The baton has now been picked up by the Newton and Earlestown Community Group, formed last year with a mission to put the pride back into Newton-le-Willows.
Deputy chairman of the group Seve Gomez Aspron said: “This is the biggest thing we have done as a group so far, and we really need the people and the businesses of Newton-le-Willows to get behind us.
“As an organising committee, we can put the show on, but to really make it a success everybody needs to get behind it as a concept.”
The show is due to be held on Mesnes Park on Saturday, August 3.
There will be no admission charge and there will be attractions suitable for all age groups.
Further details will be available over the next few months.
The group would like to hear from anyone wishing to volunteer their time, organisations wishing to take part or companies that can offer sponsorship.
