A 20-YEAR-old man has received a suspended sentence after being found guilty of assault.
Matthew Parry, from Levisham Gardens, in Warrington, attacked a man and a female police officer on Shaw Street and Church Street, in St Helens town centre, on June 11 last year.
Parry, who changed his plea from not guilty, was sentenced to be detained for three months, suspended for 18 months.
The assault was said to have been unprovoked and a weapon was used in the attack against the man.
Parry must also attend 20 sessions of the Building Skills for Recovery programme and was placed under supervision for two years. He was also fined £300, to be deducted from his benefits.
