Kind passers-by dash to aid of pedestrian after road collision

PASSERS-BY rushed to the aid of a pedestrian in her 60s who was knocked down at a sharp bend in St Helens town centre.

The collision – involving a blue Citroen Xsara Picasso – happened opposite the St Helens Courthouse, where Corporation Street and Birchley Street meet.

With heavy sleet falling on Tuesday afternoon, passers-by sheltered the injured woman as she lay on the ground waiting for an ambulance.

A police spokesman said the woman was taken to Whiston Hospital. The extent of her injuries are not clear at this stage.
