Lane closures announced for East Lancs bridge inspection near Waterside pub in St Helens

THERE will be lane closures in both directions of the East Lancs Road, while a railway bridge examination takes place on Sunday, February 3.

The work is scheduled to start at 9am at the bridge near the Waterside pub, when the Liverpool-bound carriageway will have a lane closed after which the work will move to the Manchester-bound lanes.

The work is expected to be completed by 3pm.

But hasn't this road just been shut for several weeks for the restoration of the very same bridge? Why could this work not have been done then ?

I wonder if it's due to the impending electrification of the line?

It's supposed to be complete by the end of 2014.
