Worldwide tributes to firefighter David Thomas
9:00am Friday 25th January 2013 in News
MESSAGES from around the world have been pouring into the Star in tribute to firefighter David Thomas, who died earlier this month.
As we reported last week David, a hugely popular figure across St Helens and Newton-le-Willows, died from bowel cancer aged just 50.
Around 100 firefighters attended his funeral cemetery at the crematorium, in a show of dignified solidarity with one of their own.
The Star’s Facebook page was swamped with moving tributes.
Suzanne Allsworth Ellison wrote: “RIP David. It was a true honour knowing you my friend.XXX”
It was a sentiment echoed by Lauren McCormack who added: “RIP Dave. A true gent and ultimate professional. It was a privilege to have worked with you and learned from you. X”
Glenn Hannigan said: “Goodnight Dave. A pleasure to have known you. I too learned a lot from you; mostly who you can trust in this life.”
Les Zorn paid his tribute, writing: “God bless Dave. RIP from New Zealand.”
