Manchester train derailment disruption still hitting St Helens services

THE disruption to rail travellers caused by the derailment of an empty train between Salford Crescent and Deansgate station is set to continue for the rest of today (Thursday 24 January) and until at least 2pm tomorrow (Friday 25 January) say Northern Rail.

In a statement issued at 5pm tonight (Thursday), Northern Rail state that the following services affecting travel from St Helens area are subject to delays and disruption:

Liverpool Lime Street to Manchester Airport services are cancelled until further notice

Liverpool Lime Street to Manchester Victoria services will start / terminate at Earlestown

The following services are running normally, although may be busier than usual and are subject to delays:

Manchester Oxford Road to Liverpool Lime Street via Warrington

Manchester Victoria to Blackpool

Manchester Victoria to Wigan via Bolton

Manchester Victoria to Clitheroe via Blackburn

Rail Replacement Buses will operate between:

Manchester Oxford Road to Salford Crescent

Manchester Victoria to Earlestown

Disruption is likely to continue until at least 14:00 tomorrow (Friday 25 January) so passengers are being urged to check before travelling and to allow additional time to make your journey.
