A RESPECTED fireman with 30 years’ service to the people of St Helens has died, aged 50.

David Thomas, from Newton-le-Willows, regarded by colleagues as dedicated and trustworthy, spent eight months bravely fighting bowel cancer.

He passed away on Sunday (January 6).

Finishing his career as a watch manager at Parr, David was a highly regarded firefighter who worked across Merseyside and other stations in St Helens, including Whiston and Newton-le-Willows.

His wife Suzanne described him as a “very active member of the community”.

David’s funeral service will be held at St Helens Crematorium Chapel on Wednesday, January 16 at 10am, followed by burial at Newton Cemetery at 11am.
