A DATE has been set for the trial of former Saints rugby league player Sean Long, who is accused of assaulting a woman.

The 36-year-old from Billinge, Wigan, who is currently assistant coach at Salford City Reds, faces an allegation that he assaulted 40-year-old Pamela Twist in Rainford in May.

She was a tenant at a property owned by Long

As reported previously by the Star, the ex-Saints scrum half, who is on bail, entered a not guilty plea to the charge of section 39 common assault at a hearing last month.

The former Great Britain international returned to St Helens Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday for a case management hearing.

He will face a three-day trial in June at the St Helens court house.
