UPDATED: Woman cut free from car after East Lancs crash

A SECTION of the East Lancashire Road was closed this evening following a crash involving three cars.
The incident - which led to one woman having to be freed from wreckage - happened on the eastbound section of the dual carriageway between A58 Liverpool Road and Haydock Lane.
A police statement read: "Merseyside Police can confirm officers are at the scene of a road traffic collision involving three vehicles on the East Lancashire Road this evening (Monday, January 14).
"Emergency services were called at about 5pm to a report that three vehicles, a green Volkswagen Scirocco, a silver Fiat 500 Lounge and a silver Ford Mondeo, had been involved in an RTC on the eastbound carriageway near to Haydock Lane.
"Police and Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene and a woman had to be cut free from the Fiat.
"Two people at the scene are being treated by paramedics for, what are believed to be, minor injuries."
The incident caused traffic congestion stretching back to Carr Mill Road.
The road reopened at about 7pm.
