BURGLARS dropped a trail of stolen equipment after being disturbed by a police patrol in the early hours.

Officers were called to a house on Broad Oak Avenue, Haydock at about 3.15am, to reports of suspicious behaviour.

It is believed at least two men broke into a garage adjoining the property but fled after being disturbed by officers.

A number of stolen items were taken including boxed power tools, DVDs and bottles of alcohol, and some were later found by patrols in gardens near to Ledger Road.

However, it is understood some of the haul may not have been stolen from the garage in Broad Oak Avenue.

Police are appealing for information about how they came to be in the offenders’ possession.

Neighbourhood Inspector Steve Lowe, said: "We are appealing for anyone with any information about this incident to call us so that we can identify the offenders.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to appeal to all members of the community to report any suspicious circumstances to us immediately.

"The stolen items were recovered as a direct result of a quick-thinking resident contacting the police to report suspicious behaviour.

“This call enabled us to send out a patrol that disturbed the offenders, who fled the scene leaving the stolen property behind."

Anyone with any information is asked to call Merseyside Police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
