SAINTS ace Paul Wellens has helped tackle domestic violence by pledging support to this year’s White Ribbon Day.

The full back donated a signed shirt to the campaign, which was used in a prize draw for supporters.

The White Ribbon Campaign is a global organisation which campaigns for the reduction of violence towards women.

Men who sign the online pledge show their support by wearing the white ribbon.

Retired engineer Brian Hughes was the lucky supporter to pick up the signed shirt.

Saints fan Brian said: “I enjoyed receiving the shirt, but more importantly I was delighted to support the campaign.

“I am against any violence towards women, and if I can encourage better treatment and respect toward women, among young or older men then I’m pleased to assist.”

Brian was just one of hundreds of local men to support the campaign online. Although White Ribbon Day took place at the end of last year, support can still be pledged through the website.
