A 17-YEAR-OLD boy has been charged with stealing a Blackberry mobile phone in Newton-le-Willows.

The teenager, from Sutton, pleaded not guilty to the charge at St Helens Magistrates’ Court.

Bail conditions mean the defendant, who cannot be named because of his age, is on a curfew, which mean he must be at his home address between 9pm and 7am.

He will next appear in court on Monday, January 8.

If 16 is the age of consent, it's high time we stopped the courts from with holding the names of people over that age.
