A PRIMARY school has shut until next week after a sickness bug swept through classrooms, causing 60 pupils to be taken ill.
Dozens of children suffered vomiting at Sutton Manor Primary school, Forest Road, throughout today.
With more than a quarter of the school's 207 pupils having to be sent home a decision was taken to shut the school until next week so a deep clean can take place.
A St Helens Council statement read: "Sutton Manor Primary school, Forest Road, has had to be closed this afternoon due to the bug.
"The school will be closed until Monday.
"Parents are asked to make arrangements for their children to be collected. Ring 01744 678700 for further details."
A council spokeswoman confirmed its deep cleaning team had been sent in today in an effort to wipe out the virus.
