IT will be a wonderful Christmas for the forgotten pets of St Helens.

They will be getting their festive treat thanks to the St Helens Pets at Home store, which is running its Santa Paws appeal.

The appeal collects gifts and donations for abandoned animals during December.

Until December 24 the store will encourage customers to buy an extra gift or make a donation to benefit a needy pet at a local animal rescue.

Customers can also take part in the ‘round up to a £1’ initiative, where they opt to round up the cost of their purchases to a £1, with the difference donated to local animal rescues.

Store manager Sarah Garcia said: “Our research has shown 75 per cent of pet owners will buy their pet a gift this Christmas. Not all pets will be so fortunate.

"That’s why we’re asking customers to support our appeal.”
