PUPILS took a step back in time to celebrate their school’s centenary, with a day of Edwardian activities.

Parish Church Primary has taught generations of St Helens’ families, some of who returned to mark the special occasion.

Old school rules were revived in a mock up of an old classroom, with inspections to make sure hands were clean, chalk board exercise and a recital of ‘God Save the King’.

Deputy head Mark Thomas said: “The children had an amazing day and really got to grips with their heritage.”

St Helens Transport Museum provided a bus for the pupils to take a historical tour of the town.

They immersed themselves in old playground games and past pupils were invited back to school to talk to the children.

Years five and six interviewed the mayor and mayoress and past headteachers about their associations with the school.

At dinner time Saints mascot joined the pupils to blow out the candles on a birthday cake and from 6pm, the school threw open its doors to welcome more pupils past and present, who thumbed through old photos.

The events of the day were captured on DVD and this along with a photo of all the pupils will soon be available to buy.
