OPPOSITION to plans to build houses on the side of an old pub is gaining momentum, as more people come forward with their objections.

The proposals for the old Black Horse pub in Moss Bank have not been popular with neighbours, who do not want a new development on their doorstep.

The plans are for 16 homes on the site, with Steppingtone Building Development saying there will be two, three, four and five bedroom houses.

Marion Ratcliffe is one of those determined to protect the pub, which dates back to the 18th Century.

Marion, whose husband Eddie was been a regular for the past 35-years said: “We will be holding a meeting next week at the Moss Bank Mission to discuss what will happen because a lot of people want to have their say.

“People would be more accepting if at the end of the day, running the pub isn’t viable.

“There are other plans that have been put forward for the site,” she claimed “a couple of which leave the pub standing.”

She said that many would prefer to see the old pub refurbished and maintained to keep a presence in the community.

The meeting will take place at the Moss Bank Mission on Moss Bank Road on Wednesday, November 28, starting at 6.30pm.
