THE former leader of St Helens Council, Brian Spencer is still waiting to hear whether he will face any disciplinary action from his party, after he was convicted of assault.
Spencer, who also led the local Liberal Democrats pleaded guilty to assaulting Labour Party member Mark Johnson in an altercation in the town hall as results were returned in the local elections last May.
In a hearing at South Sefton Magistrates’ Court in October, the 65-year-old admitted shoving the Labour candidate. He was fined £395.
A spokesperson from the Liberal Democrats said that the regional arm of the party will reach a decision in the next couple of weeks at the next candidates’ meeting.
