SOME of St Helens’ brightest musical talent will be joined by local heroes Steve Prescott and Martin Murray at the town’s Christmas Lights switch on this year.

Tenor Tom Loughlin – one of the stars of the inaugural Pride of St Helens Awards – Garswood brass band Trinity Girls and comedy folk favourites Lancashire Hotspots will all be given a platform at the Saturday, November 17 switch on.

The event, also featuring Britain’s Got Talent 2012 finalists The Loveable Rogues and The Mend, will include a fireworks and lighting special effects show.

Rainhill-based musician Sophie Morgan, carol singers from Broad Oak and Queens Park Primary Schools, and stars from the borough’s two pantomimes, Cinderella (Theatre Royal) and A Christmas Carol (The Citadel) will also be on the Victoria Square stage where the fun will begin from 4pm.

Organisers are promising an appearance from inspirational fundraiser Prescott and an interview with boxer Martin Murray.

The lights will be switched on decorated 35ft trees in both Victoria Square and Church Square.

The Victoria Square tree will be traditional - with elegant lights designed to complement the town hall and surrounding buildings.

Church Square’s will be adorned with illuminated Christmas motifs including presents, stockings, stars and sweets to mark its connection with the town’s shopping area.
