POLICE in Cardiff investigating a robbery near a city Waitrose store have released an artist’s impression of the getaway driver, who could be from Merseyside.

It is believed the suspects may have connections to Cheshire, Merseyside or North Wales.

Security van drivers were replenishing the cash machines when they were assaulted by four unknown men who stole five cash cassettes containing a substantial amount of money.

The men who are described as having Liverpool-type accents made off in a white Transit van.

The van which was recovered in nearby Hollybush Heights has been forensically examined along with a number of other items from inside the van including a Silver Cross ‘Pop’ Pushchair.

The driver is described as being over the age of 40, with olive skin and had a mole of his right side of his face, near his cheek bone.

Two of the suspects were wearing orange fluorescent clothing.

South Wales Police officers are liaising with colleagues from Merseyside Police and Cheshire Police as it is known that the white Transit van was stolen from an industrial estate in Chester on May 17 and was involved in a ram raid on the same industrial estate the following day.

A boiler worth £1,000 was stolen.
