THE team behind a pioneering approach to promoting individual and community wellbeing are about to ‘light a fire’ in St Helens.

Mark Swift and Danny Woodworth are running an ‘Ignite Your Life!’ event at St Helens Town Hall on Thursday, November 29, from 10am to 1.15pm.

They say the event is aimed at improving “community resilience” for 100 people in town.

Danny said: “Resilience is about people’s strengths, endurance and resistance in the face of adversity and has been shown to be one of the critical health assets at an individual, family and neighbourhood level.”

Their Wellbeing Enterprises’ award-winning community resilience programme, ‘Ignite your Life!’, teaches individuals and communities the tools and techniques to develop positive health and wellbeing.

The programme has three elements: To promote emotional literacy – identifying our feelgood factors.

To spot the signs and symptoms of common mental health problems and ways in which people can improve their well-being.

To empower people to use their skills and talents and to work together to improve the well-being of the community.

Danny added: “As part of the programme, participants are introduced to the 5 Ways to Wellbeing – five very simple, evidenced-based ways in which we can all improve our mental wellbeing.

“There are also fun and creative workshops focused on improving health and well-being.

“Since 2009 we have delivered the programme to thousands of people across the UK.”

Data supplied by 200 people who attended other ‘Ignite Your Life!’ roadshow events across Halton and St Helens shows 93 per cent rated the event as worthwhile, 90 per cent were better able to spot the signs and symptoms of depression, and 82 per cent pass on information learned about wellbeing and mental health signs and symptoms to others.
