Sign up for Steve's St Helens Santa Dash

Who can that be in the beard? Who can that be in the beard?

ST HELENS is gearing up ready for a real Santa spectacular after organisers announced a 3km dash will form part of the town centre’s festive celebrations.

Endurance king Steve Prescott will be among the hundreds expected to don a fluffy beard and red suit for the run on Saturday, December 1.

Santa Dashes have proved a hit in towns and cities across the country, with Liverpool’s festive run a particular success.

Organisers, Willowbrook Hospice, want to match that by linking up with Steve’s charitable foundation to host a festive jaunt through the town centre Steve, who posed in a Santa suit to promote the dash, said: “We are delighted to be working alongside Willowbrook Hospice.

“The Santa Dash will add another event to the St Helens calendar that promotes health.

“We hope it will provide a fun stepping stone to the St Helens 10k 2013 run that will be announced exclusively in the Star next week.

“It will be great to see 300 or so Santas running through the town centre.”

Diane Humphreys, Willowbrook fundraiser, added: “We are urging the whole of St Helens to get involved, have fun and raise funds for the worthy charities.”

The Santa Dash will blast off a Jingle Bell Fun Day, featuring entertainment and stalls.

The 3km run goes from St Helens College and wind its way through the town centre before heading over the Saints Bridge to Langtree Park and back again.

With this year’s St Helens 10K having attracted nearly 1,300 runners, it is hoped hundreds will sign up for the dash.

The entry fee (£15 for adults and £7.50 for children) will include a Santa suit.

More road closures a head then. That should do wonders for the towns business's.
