Probe launched after man dies following house party

AN investigation was launched following the death of a 21-year-old man who collapsed at a house party, the Star has learned.

The young man was taken ill suddenly on Saturday night at an address on Rivington Road, Dentons Green, where he had been with family and friends.

He was taken to Whiston Hospital where he later died.

On Sunday morning the property was sealed off while police began an investigation into what they described as an “unexplained death”.

A post-mortem was due to take place this week.

In a statement police said: "Detectives are investigating the unexplained death of a 21-year-old man from St Helens.

"Detectives were called at 11.40pm (Saturday, October 20) after the man was pronounced dead at Whiston Hospital.

"It is believed that the deceased man attended a party with family and friends at a house in Rivington Road and collapsed during the party.

"He was then taken to Whiston Hospital where he died. The death is not believed to be suspicious."

An inquest into the tragedy was due to be opened and adjourned this week.
