Potential 30ft high bonfire dismantled by Good Guy crews

A THIRTY foot high stack of timber was discovered and dismantled as part of a campaign that removes dangerous flammable materials in the run up to bonfire night.

The potential bonfire was discovered by special constables on foot patrol in Newton-le-Willows and removed by St Helens Council staff as part of the Good Guy drive.

Emergency crews have warned that street bonfires can be dangerous and unpredictable and can easily spread to nearby fences, buildings and homes.

Businesses have been advised to secure flammable materials so they do not get into the wrong hands.

Report potential street bonfires to St Helens Council on 01744 676789 or log on to www.safersthelens.org.uk

Considering how many people in St Helens like to bleat on about the recession and how they are living hand to mouth as well as how their kids can't find work, it's interesting to note that every night so far this week has seen fireworks being let off. We are not talking ' penny bangers " here but those big expensive display fireworks and rockets. All ways intrigues me how people find the money....

Have you noticed how many get their nails done in the middle of the day with their kids running around? Or how many buy scratch cards and phone top ups with their giro hanging out of the back pocket - I'm not lying seen it many a time. Poverty eh. That's not to tar everyone though I know some decent folks are suffering.
