CONTINENTAL aromas will waft through the streets of St Helens town centre again with the visit of a hugely successful French Market.

A fabulous French Market event will be in Church Square from May 29 to 31 and offers an exciting opportunity to sample high quality produce from France and mainland Europe.

The market brings your favourite European products to your doorstep, including mouth-watering French and Dutch cheeses, tasty Toulouse and Merguez sausages; a great variety of fresh and dried garlic, seasonal vegetables and fruit. Other products on sale include amazing jewellery from Paris, contemporary Italian leatherwear and a host of other delights to tempt the most discerning of palates and purses.

One of the highlights of the market is the mobile boulangerie (bakery), offering freshly baked bread and pastries. There will be mustards and spices, paella, soups and cassoulet of all descriptions, Moroccan pottery and hand made soaps and candles from Marseilles.

The event is organised by St Helens Council and market operator Team Fantastique, in conjunction with the Town Centre Partnership - the consortium of local business and other stakeholders dedicated to enhancing and promoting the Town Centre and its retail offer.

Cllr Richard Ferry, St Helens Council's Executive Member for Urban Regeneration, stated: "We are really looking forward to the French Market. Events such as this reflect our commitment to bringing a new vibrancy to the Town Centre. There are a wide variety of events and activities planned over the summer to animate the Town Centre. We trust these will appeal to local residents and visitors from across the region, which in turn will benefit town centre retailers..

Geoff Drinkel and Ali Chehbourn, Joint Directors of Team Fantastique, added: "We are delighted to be visiting St Helens to bring you a taste of France and the continent. The market will include high quality stalls, brimming with delicacies and traditional fayre. You don't need to wait until your holidays to sample the best of Europe, just visit the Town Centre. Treat yourself to an authentic Continental breakfast or enjoy a day long feast of flavours and goodies".

The French Market has toured the length and breadth of the UK, receiving wide acclaim for its range of products and services. So if you want to stock your cupboard with French goodies, simply brush up on your foreign language skills or just have a leisurely browse, take time out to visit the Town Centre with your family and friends and experience the joie de vivre' that St Helens has to offer.

Once again, the market food traders will watch as the outdoor market fails to reach any of the hygiene standards imposed on them and their stalls.
A bowl of luke warm water for hand washing whilst hundreds of people cough and sneeze over the outdoor produce. ughhhhh

what amazes me is our own indoor market is dying on its feet. Why not invest in our own local traders before brining in outdoor markets?

Local farmers market should be a priority.
All good Lancashire produce meat, veg, cheeses etc.
Maybe advertise it as a "Lancashire Farmers Market" and maybe people will think we are actually in Lancashire>

Most of the stuff is over priced and available in any major supermarket. It is patronising to suggest that the people of St Helens have never left the Borough and travelled abroad to sample other foods so thus need a continental market

This can't be in keeping with the Government and Council statements about Carbon footprint, less use of fuels and green issues. Last time this market was here they were selling the same cheap tat you can get on any market. Also selling hot food - outside an existing take-away. Hope the Council officials monitor these traders closely, given the recent news about Listeria from pre-cooked meats. Lets have a local food market instead and support our local farmers
