A FUND-raising night inspired by a brave little girl smashed all expectations by raising five times more than predicted to provide simple comforts for children in hospital.
Four-year-old Katie Birchall from Haydock was diagnosed with a rare malignant brain tumour last December and operated on in Alder Hey two days later.
As a thank-you to the hospital, Katie's mum and dad, Jeanette and Andrew were determined to pay them back for the kindness and level of care shown towards their daughter.
Jeanette said: "Considering what she's been through, Katie is doing really well. Both of us get strength from her."
Held at the new Conservative Club in Haydock, the night raised £10,000. Jeanette explained: "The money will go towards children who don't always have family support and this could include 10-month-old babies.
"They will be able to buy things like pyjamas and cuddly toys. And for parents who may have to stay with their kids round the clock they can get comfy chairs for the bedside."
