IT was tough... but a chatty bunch of cleaners won the battle against their natural urges to keep mum with a sponsored silence to raise money for little Jasmine Beedles.
Julie McLellan, Sue Hayman, Pam Woods and Lindsey Pinder, who work at Alfred H Knight on Prescot Road, had to endure a full working day from 8.30am to 4.30pm, without uttering a syllable, but raised £500 for their efforts.
Julie joked: "Lindsey is especially talkative, so it was difficult for her."
And so impressed were the company's directors with their efforts that they agreed to match the amount, raising the total to £1000.
Lindsey added: "Everyone at the company got right behind us, but some did say they would be more than happy to pay us again if we were that quiet. We are all made up with the response and hope she has a marvellous time in Disneyland."
The story of little Jasmine has drawn a massive response from Star readers across the country.
Born with a severe form of DiGeorge Syndrome, which affects her internal organs, Jasmine from Sutton Manor has been given just months to live and her parents Ben and Samantha wanted to take her to Disneyland in Paris for her sixth and final birthday. Although the initial £5,000 needed to fund the journey has been raised, goldenhearts continue to offer money to make sure that Jasmine has the perfect holiday.
