Campaigners aiming to bolster Saints stadium support

CAMPAIGNERS will gather in St Helens town centre on Saturday to distribute 3,000 leaflets that call on townsfolk to back Saints dream for a new rugby league stadium.

Members of the Supporters Backing the Stadium group will be hoping to add names to a petition that calls on the authorities to give the £25m ground the green light. Already more than 11,500 people have pledged their support.

Three interlinked planning applications that all need to secure approval for the stadium to go ahead are finally expected to go before St Helens Council's planning committee on Tuesday, May 20.

The SBS group will also be raising awareness of a march from Victoria Square to Knowsley Road that is scheduled to begin at 4.45pm on Saturday, May 17 ahead of Saints home game against Catalan Cragons.

Its not the people whom you've got to get the message through to; it's the council and Morrisons!

So Ill put it forward every saints supporter this week on the 14/15th of May should go to the first council meeting and they should turn outside the town hall (like saints have just won the challenge cup), its also a very important council meeting because its the making of the mayor! So if you do it, it would definitely make most memorable day for the council and mayor , and also make the news (star/reporter)

How predictable it is to get the stock answer from Peter, ie the ground has been there longer than you I have had that answer time and time again I have never had a sensible answer or point of view other than that, I wonder Peter if you have ever come home from work after working a 12 hour shift and had to park your vehicle a mile away from home and then at 10' o clock at night walk back for it to be able to get it in your drive after the rugby watching saddo's have returned to their conjestion free zealously guarded parking space outside their home, I think not. I think Peter you may even remember the first game at Knowsley Road because you live in St Helens Lancashire whilst the rest of us live in St Helens Merseyside or are you one of the saddo's who can't accept that as well, it would seem you like living in the past so walking to the ground shouls suit you.

well if being 29 is old then i must be past it.Most real St Helens folk who i drink with or stand with at saints are Lancastrians all the way nobody voted to be in merseyside and nobody tells me i live in a fake county.As for being a saddo if supporting my home-town team and being proud of the towns history is sad the i must be.As for your parking you know the score when you choose to live near a sports ground take it up with the council or the old bill.I spend time and money in the pubs and clubs in the area before the game so dont drive.

At 29 Peter you are a Merseysider as St Helens Lancashire ceased to exist in 1974 so realy you have never lived in Lancashire and you claiming to be a Lancastrians is probaly the result of brainwashng by some older person who dwells on the past and cannot accept change. The parking problem was not here when I first moved to the area as fans either walked, used bikes or the bus to get to the ground but now we have a generation of younger people who seem to be allergic to walking further than the few metre's from the house to the car and a few steps further are a disaster, as for Rugby if the first clown did not kick the ball the rest of the clowns would not have to chase it, this also applys to the other sets of clowns at either end of the East Lancasire road.

Well Angry Dave as Peter states in his post, the people he drinks with all like Saints, that is to be expected as groups of friends do have the same do tend to have the same interests and hobbies and drinking habits, I to have friends and interests but I do not impose my likes on to other members of the towns population. As for your comments about me having a downer on sports and being bullied I can assure that is not so, sport to me is somthing I can take or leave but it does not rule my life. Just one more comment I was one of the last group of people in the town to be called up for National Service, one of the first things my group of intake were asked was what sports do you do, all the usual replies came footbal, rugby, baseball and when it came me I replied Cycling Sir and as I did not have my bike with me I was given a weekend pass and travel warrant to go home for my bike, and the when all the other sporty lads were being chased around a field getting fit I used to get on my bike and ride to the local pubs and have a couple of drinks, so you see having a minority interest sometimes pays off.
