MAGS Johnston, who played Maria Helliwell in the Canterbury Players' production of When we are Married, won Best Actress in a Drama award at a glittering dinner at the Palace Hotel in Manchester on Saturday (January 30).
The event was the finals of the National Operatic and Dramatic Association District 1 awards for which Canterbury Players received 11 nominations for their last two productions, My Friend Miss Flint and When We are Married.
Mags, a comparative newcomer to the Canterbury Players, is more accustomed to appearing in musicals with All Saints Musical Productions.
The 63-year-old from Flixton, said: “When they shouted my name out, my husband, Graham, started cheering and then everyone else.
“I got a massive trophy.
“I liked playing Maria because her relationship with her husband was more normal than the others.”
Mags will now appear in the regional finals on Sunday, May 1 at the Mercure Hotel, Manchester.
