ALTRINCHAM Garrick turns to the Emerald Isle for its next production, a play intriguingly billed as Father Ted meets Reservoir Dogs.

The Lieutenant of Inishmore by Martin McDonagh scooped a prestigious Olivier Award for Best New Comedy in 2003 and was also nominated for an equally coveted Tony Award.

Mystery surrounds the death of Wee Thomas, a friendly cat knocked over on a lonely road on the island of Inishmore. But was it an accident? His owner, the handsome and dangerous Padriac, will want to know when he returns from across the border. He loves his moggy more than life itself.

Director Paul Kerryson said: "During my recent time at Curve theatre in Leicester, a highlight was directing local acting talent in exciting plays and musicals, so I am especially thrilled to be working with such a young, talented cast in this community production of one of my favourite plays.”

McDonagh's stage credit also include The Cripple of Inishmaan, which I saw at The Lowry with Aaron Monaghan is mesmerising form in the title role.

* Altrincham Garrick presents The Lieutenant of Inishmore by Martin McDonagh from March 2-7 at 7.30pm. Tickets are available from 0161 928 1677 or Altrincham Tourist Information Centre, Stamford New Road, Altrincham.

The Garrick's Monday night two ticket for the price of one policy is proving popular - people are being advised to book early to avoid disappointment.

The play contains violence, adult humour and some strong language. For more information, visit altrinchamgarrick.co.uk.
