No one was holding Jess Glynne’s hand as she topped the singles chart as a solo act for the first time.

The singer-songwriter, 25, twice went to number one last year when she provided guest vocals for Clean Bandit’s million-selling Rather Be and Route 94′s My Love.

Now she is there in her own right, with the Londoner’s new entry Hold My Hand going straight into the top spot, according to the Official Charts Company.

She told OfficialCharts.com: “As amazing as the other two felt, the feeling I have with this is on another level. To get a number one in my own name is one of the most insane feelings.”

Jess kept James Bay’s Hold Back The River off the top of the chart, outselling it by 40,000 copies.

Years & Years’ former number one, King, fell one place to three while Rihanna, Kanye West and Sir Paul McCartney spent a ninth consecutive week in the top five, with FourFiveSeconds, down one at four, also the most streamed track of the week with 1.8 million listens.

Another former number one, Ellie Goulding’s Love Me Like You Do, spent an eighth week in the top five at five.

Last week’s number one, Sam Smith and John Legend’s Lay Me Down, fell to six.

James Bay is probably not feeling too bad at missing out on the number one single – his debut album, Chaos And The Calm, has gone straight to the top of the album chart, according to the OCC.

The Brit Awards Critics’ Choice winner sold more than 64,000, entering the chart ahead of two mammoth albums, Sam Smith’s In The Lonely Hour and Ed Sheeran’s x. Seasick Steve is a fellow new entry at four with Sonic Soul Surfer, his fourth top 10 album. Last week’s number one, Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp A Butterfly, dropped to five.
