Community pantomime brings the Snow Queen to The Citadel

FOR Christmas 2009 the Citadel Arts Centre has produced The Snow Queen, a community pantomime adapted from the story by Hans Christian Andersen, writes Lauren Wilson.

Little Jack Frost and Fairy tell the tale of Gerda and Kai as the travel through the Land of Ice and try to avoid the wrath of its evil ruler Snow Queen in a classic tale of good triumphing over evil.

The production required plenty of imagination from the audience, but the talented cast and exuberant pace of the panto more than made up for the lack of expensive sets.

A special mention must be made to the supremely talented James Seddon, 21, who absolutely stole the show with his hilarious and equally endearing performance as Granny.

Hammer and Tongs, the two bumbling assistants of the wicked Snow Queen had the audience both young and old in stitches too.

This really was festive family fun at its best, and it had everything that you would want from a pantomime.

I saw none of the usual bored adults, they were laughing and cheering along with the children, as the Citadel managed to achieve a wonderful humour and pace that appealed to all ages.
