Citadel’s birthday buzz

THE Citadel's 21st brilliant birthday season continues with top shows.

This Thursday, October 8, for one night only, local comedians Ray Peacock, one of the most popular headline acts currently on the circuit, the always affable Dave Twentyman and a fresh-faced graduate of the Stand Out course for young comedians take part in St Helens Born ‘n’ Bred, an event part of this year’s St Helens Comedy Week.

Then on Friday, October 9 young new musicians and performers can be seen at the under 18's, dry bar event Overload.

Each month hundreds of young people head to the Citadel to be part of an alternative music night, which gives other young people the chance to perform to a supportive audience in a professional music environment.

This Friday's line-up includes, Botanically Brewed, Faces 4 Radio and KY Jellybeans.

Following this on Saturday, October 17 Edgar Jones’ Freepeace returns after supporting Oasis on tour.

Noel Gallagher personally selected them to perform in five countries of the European leg of their Dig Out Your Soul album world tour in February.

Oasis were so impressed that they then asked them back for their Heaton Park ‘supergigs’ in Manchester. With Noel describing their sound as being ‘...like New Year’s Eve 1969 all over again.....brilliant’. Liam has also been citing them as his new favourite band in the NME online.

Then finally on Hallowe’en itself Mark Morriss, indie icon and frontman of The Bluetones brings a very special acoustic set to the Citadel, with a stripped down sound that recreates not only his own favourite tunes but also some much loved 90s anthems.
