LEISURE chiefs are believed to have lined up a big name hip-hop act to headline their one-day summer music festival.
Organisers of the yearly Victoria Square show have ditched the Eclectica title and it is instead being rebranded as the St Helens Live Music Festival.
It will take place on Saturday, August 8, between 4pm and 7pm and, in a further step away from the format of the last few years, the event will no longer be free.
Instead the council will seal off Victoria Square and festival goers will need to buy tickets priced at £5.
St Helens leisure bosses want the show to appeal to a younger audience, particularly teenagers.
The Star understands a UK hip-hop act has agreed to headline the show. However, a confidentiality clause signed by the council and the award-winning group means their identity will only be confirmed in July.
Further top name artists could follow, while up and coming local talent is also expected to feature.
A St Helens Council spokeswoman said: “This is all part of the St Helens Live events that is seeing music and shows in the town hall and in St Helens town centre.
“We looked at what was on offer and I felt there was a gap to do something that would really appeal to the 12 to 18 age group. Announcements about who will be performing will be made in the coming weeks.”
