ARTY youngsters earn a special salute next week.

St Augustine of Canterbury Catholic High School is hosting the fourth St Helens Youth and Community Arts Awards in their Nugent Arts Arena next Wednesday, July 1.

The Awards are organised by St Augustine’s in association with St Helens Council and The World of Glass.

They celebrate the commitment and achievement of the town’s young people in relation to Visual Art and English Literature and also recognise the achievements of two local artists through the St Helens’ Visual Artist of the Year Award and the Ken Read Memorial Award – presented to an artist working in the voluntary visual arts sector.

As a specialist visual arts school, St Augustine’s is dedicated to developing arts opportunities for, not only their own pupils, but also the wider community.

All St Helens schools are invited to nominate their pupils for awards each year.

This year saw a dramatic increase in the number of schools involved (28 in total) and, as always, the standard of nominations was exceptionally high.

Evonne Bixter, School and Community Arts Coordinator at St Augustine’s said; “The Youth and Community Arts Awards have gone from strength to strength and continue to be a wonderful and fitting way for us to join together as a Borough and celebrate artistic talent in St Helens.

“The awards are made possible through generous support from our various partners, sponsors and supporters.

“These are: St Helens Council, The World of Glass, Helena Housing, Vinyline, Capita Education Resourcing, Riverside Housing, Snape Cowing Architects, Rennies Arts and Crafts, Dyingfrog Arts Network and finally, Asda on Kirkland Street, who are donating all of the flower displays for the event.

Thank you to all involved and well done to our award winners!”

As well as a visual art exhibition, the evening will also feature music and dance performances.
