Festival line-up has something for us all

This week’s Prescot Festival promises the perfect programme to suit our cash-strapped economic climate.

Audiences feeling the pinch will be delighted at the opportunity to hear three first-rate classical acts for only three pounds when the Blue Moon String Quartet, Wirral Winds and the Phoenix Concert Orchestra take to the stage on Saturday. The concert also features a world premiere from local composer Kevin George Brown.

On Sunday afternoon, the Fell Clarinet Quartet and COMA North West will deliver – for a ticket price of a mere £2 – something a little more avant-garde for those with a taste for the innovative and experimental.

Other low-price events include an acoustic night with singer-songwriter Rachael Dunn, £1, Songs from the Shows with the Birkenhead Operatic Society (£3) and Highlights from Handel’s Messiah, followed by Last Night of the Proms, both for free.

“We’ve always been keen to make the Festival accessible and affordable,” said Artistic Director Dr Robert Howard, “and we’re lucky to have dozens of generous supporters and volunteers to make it happen.”

The 2009 Prescot Festival runs from Friday 19 to Sunday 28 June. This year the Festival welcomes actor Peter Sallis (Last of the Summer Wine, Wallace & Gromit) as its special guest. Full information on this and other events is available at the official website: www.prescotfestival.co.uk, or by phoning Dave on 0151 493 9392.
