MULTI-award winning folk musician Martin Simpson returns to The Citadel On Saturday, March 21.
In 2008 he was hailed as: “One of the finest acoustic finger-style and slide guitar players in the world,” and won both Best Album and Best Original Song at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.
His recent success proves that after 35 years as a professional musician Martin is better than ever, with his solo shows described as intense, eclectic, spellbinding and deeply moving.
His recordings are a mix of original and traditional songs successfully combining the diverse elements of British, Afro-American and old-timey music.
His career includes collaborations on stage and record with June Tabor, Kelly Joe Phelps, Jackson Browne, Danú, Martin Carthy, Cara Dillon, David Lindley, Roy Bailey, Martin Taylor, David Hidalgo, Steve Miller, Dick Gaughan and many more.
Whether playing American oldtime music, blues, a Dylan song or his own material, Martin Simpson is a spellbinding guitarist and performer.

This very special preview night is the start of a tour that will see the St Helens lads travel around the UK over the coming months.
To celebrate the occasion they are also bringing along some friends and the line-up includes The Uncomfortables, David Rybka & The Victorian Dad Band, The Hang Project and DJ Gradius (The VC’s).
The Murmurs Of Tension specialise in highly charged psych mayhem, taking elements of Folk, Pop, Rhythm & Blues and Freakbeat to form a blend of fractured rhythms, luscious harmonies and battling guitars.
The Awkward Aura EP includes the tracks, Oh When She Cries, Showdown, Power Of Bagsy, We Won’t Get Back To The Other Side and Big World Outside.
