Dermot O’Leary has danced his way to victory for Comic Relief after raising over a whopping £1 million pounds.

The TV and radio presenter, who raised £643,336 on the night of the challenge for his Day of Dance, has now hit the impressive target, following donations from the British public, with his current total standing at £1,011,117.

“When I first came up with the idea for this challenge, I had no idea it would grip people in this way, and I’m so proud of what we achieved together,” he said.

“To know that even in these difficult times the public have dug deep and donated is just incredible, and on behalf of everyone who will benefit so much from your generosity I would just like to say a huge, gigantic, mammoth thank you!”

Fans and celebrities such as Caroline Flack, Jamie Oliver, Terry Wogan and Ella Henderson flocked to The London Palladium on March 13 for Red Nose Day to cheer the former X Factor host on as he gave 24 hours of non-stop side-steps, stomps, and swivels.

Lenny Henry and Davina McCall also attended and congratulated Dermot on stage.

The 41-year-old went all out despite aching muscles, blisters and fatigue after completing the 24-hour challenge to raise money for children living on the streets of Kenya.

“Their lives are so stark, they live on a day to day basis, they try to make as much money as they can to survive, and all they want to do is go to school,” he said, adding: “It just galvanized me, to see how they live hand to mouth.”
