SWASHBUCKLING fun is set to return to Prescot Woodland as MATE Production’s performance of Treasure Island returns.

This Saturday (July 14) will see the spectacular steampunk-inspired show which reimagines Robert Louis Stephenson’s pirate classic make a return as part of its summer tour.

Directed by Gaynor La Rocca of MATE Productions, the show began its tour At Liverpool’s Unijty Theatre before going to Prescot in June and has taken in parks, gardens and woodlands across Merseyside over the past two months.

The show involves more than 100 community actors, dancers, musicians, singers and volunteers from ages eight to 80-plus.

It also features original live music by Taran Harris and stunning Victorian futuristic costume by Jane Allen, this nautical odyssey also boasts explosive percussion direction by Francisco Carrasco.

The show’s choreography and movement direction comes from Beverley Norris Edmonds, with swashbuckling fight direction by British Equity Fight director Renny Krupinski.

Established in 2000, MATE Productions is a Prescot-based theatre and community arts organisation, led by Gaynor and a team of creative professionals.

The company specialises in epic storytelling of literary classics through total theatre, spectacular site specific work in parks, woodlands, great halls, museums and docklands, and socially important work in community venues such as pubs, community centres, nursing homes and schools.

The production of Treasure Island is supported by Arts Council England and Knowsley Council, and presented by special arrangement with Samuel French.

The buccaneering adventure promises a thrilling voyage for the family.

Treasure Island will be performed at Prescot Woodland Theatre again on Saturday, July 14 at 2pm and at 7pm.

The tour will also head up for a final battle at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe between Monday, August 18 and Thursday 28.
