JANE Austen fans are in for a treat as a trio of themed events take place to mark 200 years since the writer’s death.
Regarded as one of the greatest authors on love, social standing and the human condition, Austen penned classics Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility.
Events will feature as part of the ninth season of St Helens Libraries’ award-winning Cultural Hubs programme.
‘An Austentatious Murder’ is at Eccleston Library on Thursday (November 2) from 5.15pm to 7.30pm.
Participants will play detective after the creator of the Dating Mr Darcy app is found dead of a broken heart.
Suitable for ages 12 and above, it will last approximately two hours.
Meanwhile, from Thursday 9 to Saturday 11 Laura Jamieson’s Travelling
Letter Exchange will land in Newton-le-Willows Library, reminding residents
of the craft and creativity of letter-writing, intrinsic to Austen’s life who wrote more than 3,000.
Residents are invited to sit down and put pen to paper – writing a letter and creating a new record of life in the North West. All will receive a letter in reply.
And LipService theatre presents comic performance, Thrills and Quills – Jane Austen’s Life in Letters at Newton Library on Monday, November 13 at 7pm.
Tickets for An Austentatious Murder and Thrills and Quills cost £6, £5 (St Helens Library Card holders), or £3 for concessions. Book online at
culturalhubs.eventbrite.co.uk or call into any St Helens library to
purchase tickets.
