WITH Glastonbury over and done with for another year, the festival season is in full swing and it was great to
hear from Jeff Magowen of 'Backwater' this week about an outdoor music festival he is putting together. 'Brookfest' will take place at Blackbrook rugby club on Saturday, August 22 and it promises to be a great event.
"Brookfest will have a purpose built stage and proceeds going to North West Macmillan
Cancer Support and the Isabella Rose Foundation," says Jeff.
There will be a massive outdoor bar and various food outlets and traders, with admission by ticket only. They are available from Blackbrook rugby club, Urban Ink tattoo studio, Sutton and the Omni Therapy Rooms, Haydock with children aged 12 and younger free with a paying adult. Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult and gates open at 12pm.
"The first band will be on stage at 1pm we will be having live music all day and the headline band will be the awesome guns or roses, Europe's premier tribute band," added Jeff.
"We are expecting crowds of around 2,000 people. Tickets are selling well but we are limited to the amount we can sell, first come first served."
The festival has a great line-up of local bands and looks like it will be the biggest musical event in the town apart from last month’s Westfield street festival. Many thanks to Jeff for getting in touch and there will be more about 'Brookfest' the nearer to the date.
Loads of other musical delights are happening in the town this weekend again.
One highlight to look out for is the return of the Rendezvous Bar to presenting live music this Friday with the legendary Swampstompers, who will be gracing the stage from 10pm.
On Sunday, The Rendezvous Bar presents an evening of contemporary folk and blues with internationally well known acoustic guitarist Adrian Nation. This looks as though it will be a fantastic evening with Maverick Magazine referring to him as "an acoustic guitar master”.
It will be well worth the £6 a ticket.
