IT'S been a busy old weekend. My conrespondents in the field report The Red lion music festival was an outstanding success raising loads of money for the Willowbrook hospice so a big well done to Tara and Steve. From the pictures and reports I've heard from on the day it's was busy with punters sticking their collective hands in collective pockets for Willowbrook and all the bands did a great job of keeping the big crowd entertained.
Hopefully the festival will continue being a yearly event.
Speaking of Willowbrook, a huge date for your diaries on Saturday June 6 at the Rendezvous bar in the town centre, one of our good friends here at Glasstown towers and highly respected drummer with many, many bands over the years, Eddie Goldsack, has organised an evening of comedy and music. The evening is in memory of his partner, the lovely and wonderful Ann Cain who sadly passed away at Willowbrook last year. Eddie wanted to thank Willowbrook so much for making Ann's last days as comfortable and as happy as possible in such difficult circumstances so he decided to arrange this evening featuring local comedy collective
The Starfish comedy club, and three of our finest local bands, The Lazzy Band, The Swampstompers and Dreamfeeder (formally
Prophets Rose).
This promises to be a great night of laughter, music and fun and for a brilliant and worthwhile cause
the Willowbrook hospice. It all kicks off at 7pm on the dot at the Rendezvous bar, Church street, town centre a week on
Saturday, June 5.
And finally, before we take a look at the gig guide. I was out and about "on patrol" on Sunday on a mission to rock, so to speak at Tank Bar in Westfield street. Tank Metal mayhem night featured three fantastic local extreme metal bands, the wonderfully-named Reaper, Animus and Defied. Lovely to see the compact and bejou Tank bar packed to bursting with an enthusiastic throng of headbangers enjoying three of the local scenes accomplished bands.
Extreme metal isn't everyone’s cup of tea but when it's played with the skill and precision shown by all three bands on the bill Sunday evening then I think even if you like your music a lot tamer and quieter you couldn't deny the quality of the way all three bands played. It even had good old S.T. here doing a
bit of headbanging.
Another successful night in the town and hats off to Tank's high commander and purveyor of fine ales,
Ian Whittaker, for promoting such a great show and we hope here at Glasstown towers it will continue again!
