THIS month St Helens bands have been hard at work. From promoting good causes to releasing new videos to launching free singles, local bands are proving that the town’s home-grown talent is continuing to blossom.

Following the release of their charity single Freedom Fighter, Titors Insignia have spent the past few weeks clocking up sales of the record and raising awareness for ABF - The Soldiers’ Charity.

Already receiving more than 3,000 views on YouTube, the video for Freedom Fighter features St Helens hero Andy Reid and has been retweeted by DJs, celebs and news websites across the country.

Speaking to the Star last month, frontman Stu Ogden said: “Andy actually went to our school, Broadway Community High, but he was a few years older than us. “After reading about Andy in the Star and the fact that Ste’s brother Davis is in the Army, we decided to do something.”

The single is available on iTunes and every penny raised goes to the charity.

The Bordellos released a new single Weird K this week on Midlands-based, indie label Daddy Tank Records.

A concoction of brilliantly crafted, alternative lo-fi, the track is a beautiful example of the growing anti-folk genre. The use of guitar and harmonica riffs with eerie vocals, makes Weird K a raw piece of independent music to be inspired by.

Guitar and vocalist, Brian Shea said: “The record label is also releasing our new album Ronco Revival Sound at the end of September. “Between the single and the album release, we’ve also recorded a session for the Jeff Grainger show on Dandelion Radio that will be aired throughout October.”

The single is a free download available now on Daddy Tank’s website.

One of the band’s that has definitely taken the town by storm in the past year is Stillia.

This week the band released the music video to their new song I Don’t Care. The video was produced by WASP Video and Stillia saw more than 2,000 views in the first 24 hours.

Stillia said: “We are absolutely overwhelmed with the response from our fans. “The number of views in the first day is far more than we expected and we really want to thank everyone for their support.”

The lads have had a hectic schedule of shows this summer and - despite their commitment to live performances – have found the time to work on a new EP.

Frontman Jack Bennett told the Star: “The EP is coming along great and will hopefully be out very soon. Once we have more of an idea of when it will be released, we are going to have a launch night at a venue in the town.”
